A Day For Reflection
November 27, 2010
Not many words today. My wife and I have returned from a memorial service in honor of a close family friend who passed away this week. The past few days I have been thinking about seasons, time, hope, loss, renewal, faith… a bunch of things like that. It’s so easy to be caught up in the mundane things, all that we feel we have to do do just to keep treading water. But each day is a gift, if we only see it as such, and don’t waste it.
Wherever you’re at this weekend, I hope you can share time with people who are special to you…

Sorry to hear that, Royce. I think your image really captures the sad beauty of thoughts of loss and time.
Thanks Sam. I made this photograph the morning before we heard of our friend’s passing, and the image took on a different sense of meaning for me after. In addition to doing some thinking and reading after getting the news, I also did some creative things including a bit of writing and working on a couple of images. Creating can be therapeutic…
Although we spoke of this before, I just wanted to add my condolences on your loss Royce. And although the image took place before the news, it still expresses the quiet thought and reflection one needs during sad times. Not only can creativity be therapeutic, but the sense of life’s temporality gives new meaning to that work.
